At this point, drop this on the landlord to handle but know that your personal responsibility is report crime to the police and violations of your lease to the landlord.And, quit living in fear and anxiety.

I recommend that you read both of David Greene's books, and hopefully that will get rid of the mystery and fear of out of state, just like it did for me.
