A lot of landlords used to handle a lot of this the good old fashioned way of pen and paper, but that can quickly become a good way to lose track of really important things.

My understanding is that with condos, you own from the wall surface to the opposite side of the room. 

He could have kept things up to date in the surface but you never know if there are foundation issues or other issues that is being covered up.
