The elderly you hear die are often in nursing homes or alone at home where no one give a crap about them and they cant take care of themselves....yes it happens...but if you are physically capable of taking some action, the risks are very very tinyI would treat it the same way I would treat it for my own family...... not paying big $$ to fix it as an emergency...... fans, portable AC units, going to the mall or the movies or somewhere cooler for the day....suck it up....life will go on while I get it taken care of as promptly as possible...urgent....but not an emergency in 99.9999% of cases.The portable AC units are the best solution...... will do a decent job while you get the solution to the bigger problem figured out.

I'm sure you guys that have real life experience (unlike myself since this is my first one) can touch on that question.

I like the life insurance idea.

To me, life has always been about doing something that I truly enjoy, while trying to set myself up for long term financial freedom by creating multiple sources of passive income.

I started off reading @Scott Trench's book Set for Life, and now I am about half way through @Brandon Turner's book The Book on Rental Property Investing.

You will find that typically the boardmembers have rentals and they will make life difficult for outside investors.

Its actually less expensive than a warranty plan, but they will not pay to replace your HVAC unit once it dies and there are no available parts to bring it back to life.

I'm in Bloomington and I'm sure you will find the pace of life here in the Midwest a lot nicer than CA.
