Right now houses jumped in the greater Boston area about $100 - $150k in one year.

Ideally I’m looking for towns within an hour of Boston.

Sometimes they will approve housing that will require a tenant to pay up to 40% of income to housing and utilities, but that does not leave very much for food, medical, transportation, savings for emergencies, etc.
