Section 8 Voucher Question

Chris Fillingham
Posted

I'm working to rent out my first Section 8 home in St. Louis. I've posted the house on GoSection8.com and gotten quite a bit of interest. In my portal, I'm able to look at "Prospects." There are two details I have questions about.

1. If they qualify for a 4 bedroom, but my property is a 3 bedroom, can I rent to them? Is there any downside?

2. The Information on the prospects page has a column for "Rent." I'm seeing anything from $850 to $1300. What does this number tell me? Is it the amount of subsidy they quality for? I can't find info on that.

Anyone know? @JenniferDonley?

I think he means the opposite - he has a 3 bedroom house and is asking if he can rent to someone with a 4 bedroom voucher.  No impact to rent in this situation.

Chris, if I've got it wrong and you've got a 4 bedroom house, then taking someone with a 3 bedroom voucher will lower the amount of rent receive.
