Your labor is not accounted for unless you are paying yourself as a contractor and picking up that income at the individual level.

My concern is cutting into the slab could harm the structural integrity.

Usually, individuals will Quitclaim partial interests to other individuals who then file BK.

I have heard about the possibility of two individuals using their VA entitlement to purchase a commercial property together (8-plex).

It can be:Single family with multiple bedrooms, which you rent our individually to roommatesMultifamily- again, live in it and rent the units outWhen you graduate, rinse and repeat where you will move to, next.
