They perversely turn away, out of shame and embarrassment, from the people they should be turning to.

Experience - I made so many mistakes it's embarrassing but I learned from each one.

This happens often but I guess people are too embarrassed or prideful to ask for help or publicize their hardtime.

It is embarrassing and a sign you need to focus more when someone says "What do you know about that house over on Elm" and you have no idea.

Keep in mind that this is a sensitive and usually embarrassing time for the homeowner so they may or may not want to talk to you.
