Borrowing up to 50% of the account value and $50,000 max is allowed on my 403(b): The 401(K) may be the same.For me, borrowing from myself in 1998 turned out to be an exceptional way to  enjoy our "retirement savings" long before retiring, get into home ownership, diversify investments, leverage, get a tax write-off, weather the stock market down-turn, etc, etc, etc.

@Kimberly CaceresStarting out in the city is difficult and just like you when I started after realizing nothing fit my budget in the city I started to look Upstate.There are some nice SUNY towns that caught my attention but I decided I wanted to go somewhere with warmer weather and more favorable laws for landlords NYS is one of the worst.
