Hi Everyone, I am 25 and pre-approved with 5% down on a $499,900 two-unit multi-family unit in an increasingly popular neighborhood of Chicago--fifteen minute Uber to Wrigley Field, surrounded by tons of public transit, new restaurants popping up, etc. 

We've got two kids now and don't want them to stay here for the exam-oriented high school education, so working on our transition plan. we'd like to have a dozen or so by then so my husband can manage them and I'm thinking of becoming a realtor.

While veterans are going to school they're able to save money and support each other through their transition and education.Thank you for any and all info!

Perhaps transition from short term to long term property so your turnover is largely eliminated and the frustration decreased.

Not to mention I'm trying to transition to a new line of work, so purchasing closer to "home" was much more important than getting something closer to work.  

Also, in Memphis (with terrible public transit) most folks have & drive their own vehicles ... that can mean needing parking for each college age student living with them.  

I just want to make sure it functions before I start transitioning everything over to it.

With a strategy to build a rental property portfolio (a mix of 1-3 year buy and holds and longer term rentals) to transition full time to a real estate career what should be my next steps.

I'm looking to get a number of wholesale deals under my belt and then transition to a flip.
