On an upflow furnace, I have seen an installer (from an authorized dealer for the furnace brand involved) leave the evaporator coil attached to the refrigerant lines and the supply ductwork above the furnace, disconnect the old furnace, slide it out from under the evaporator coil, slide the new furnace under the evaporator coil, and hook up the new furnace.
