Please let me know if I am incorrect in understanding the scenario.If this is the case - it will depend on many many factors that only your accountant can say for certain1) Will parts of the renovation be a repair or an improvement.Repairs are immediately expensed while improvements are capitalized unless they fall under a de minimis safe harbor.Then whether your increased expenses will lower your tax liability will depend if you are eligible to use passive losses from rental activities against your other income.
