When you pull the permit to replace that old water heater, are you going to learn that your county has a minimum standards requirement in place so that once you pull ANY permit - ALL your major systems - electrical, plumbing, gas lines, HVAC, venting, flood and fireproofing, etc - must now come up to code?

I have several ballpark quotes from two different contractors.Replace steam boilers: ~$4000 per unitNew gas boiler and forced hot water system: ~$12,000 per unitNew gas furnace and forced hot air system: ~$12,000 per unitIn your experience, would it be worth it to replace the entire steam system with one of the gas options?

For example I know most properties a few blocks from college, or close to a military base are solid indicators if the numbers work, but what else.All major operations use some type of model that's a lot more complex, for example, Walmart or Sheetz gas station have some type of population and traffic to housing location model that works.Thanks in advanced.

Though his explanation makes sense to me about being a lien holder..similar to a gas or electric company putting a lien on a house, it's not considered a transfer taxable event for them.
