I wouldn't be shocked by an upward trend of rents in the area.

I moved over from the Seattle area 10 years ago and the first few winters were SHOCKING, but I've adjusted well. 

So don't be shocked if a.) that was their intent when they bought the place to being with or b.) they just don't want to sell so "capital gains" is an easy way to avoid telling a nice guy "go kick rocks".  

Wrapped up the work along with a shock treatment to kill any remaining spores.

@Bob RenthammerWhat do you see that could a causing a supply shock or may cause the gov to increase regulation/monetary policy to the detriment of growth?

I have been pretty fortunate thus far so I guess this is why I'm shocked when something like this happens.
