At this point you can't offset passive real estate losses with other types of income(ordinary / portfolio).However, she likely is not paying tax on her real estate cash-flow which makes real estate a better alternative to stocks / bonds from an after-tax perspective.

While there are of course some benefits to a condo, the associations are able to raise your HOA fees any time they have a "need", may have to levy large "special assessments" in the event of large expenditures, and can even make sure that only a certain % of units in the community are not occupied by actual owners thereby making rentals difficult.

I'm in California so out-of-state is definitely my best option.I read some negative feedback about Roofstock (they do volume and automation vs. quality and real people) and read some good stuff about Rent 2 Retirement but I've tried to talk to them for 3 weeks now and they didn't show up to the calls scheduled using their system, so I feel like I'm in a dead-end with these two options.I was wondering if anyone knew about other companies or people who specialize in turnkey LTR properties?
