John I think that what he was getting at is a change in the law that excludes having to pay taxes on forgiven debt without having to jump through all the hoops and have the IRS manually review your claim of hardship.

Laws very widely on exactly what you can do in situations like this, and are very strict in some locations.

A few states have some specific laws that restrict or otherwise compromise what you can do with a lease/option deal.
