My thoughts are that aside from gated communities, pocket neighborhoods and shared housing foster a sense of community and increase safety of neighborhooods. 

Steve,I would recommend completing your profile, throwing up a picture and letting the community know a bit more about yourself to add some weight to your request.Sounds like a good opportunity for someone looking to learn the ropes.

I'd also call their prior landlord and find out why they did not disclose the animal hoarding during your application due diligence.
