As far as I'm concerned, the glass may be thermally good, but when that glass is placed in a sash, and that sash place in a frame, how well does the entire assembly perform not only thermally, but at keeping out air movement?

With insured loans, the issue is when a section of the house, usually a converted attic, lacks a "permanent heat source".

There are other FHA requirements concerning which you should contact your local lender, but determining whether or not a triplex or fourplex meets the self-sufficiency rule is a good place to start as this rule will immediately eliminate many properties from your search, especially in expensive markets like mine.

The concern is that some of the potential "buyers" are really just competitors looking for industry info.  

One issue giving me some concern is the limited opportunity to force appreciation with this property.

Was a story on NPR this morning about the federal push to get permanent housing for Veterans (story here).  

I have started looking in places outside my area, but I'm concerned that because I'm so far away I won't be able to make the right decisions when problems come up.
