I understand that, but if you keep it as a primary residence and do some sort of house hacking deal where you rent out rooms, can you get passed that?

As the value of my primary residence has continued going up, I've now closed HELOCs on it THREE different times.

Specifically, insurance placements, corporate housing, and relocations.

The remaining $3,000 rolls into your replacement property and continues to be depreciated.
