If he could only swing $2000/mo because the same person deposited $700 every single month like clockwork 2 days before he paid rent, you will see that, and get a pretty good hint that something is up if the rent for your place is $2100 and he claims there will be no other people staying there with him (assuming there is no W-2 or 1099 that lines up, etc).One thing to keep in mind is that you discovered as soon as that conversation happened that this person commits tax fraud and thinks it's no big deal.
