. , also talks about one who does not regularly engage in the business of making or brokering mortgage loans one of our recent REIA's we had a lawyer discussing this, and he kept mentioning how theres alot of gray area, and there has not been any cases where this was brought to court, My undestanding is, if your owner financing the properties, you'd be regularly engaging in the business and could be found guilty. the lawyer wasnt even sure. just dont get caught.

I asked him how long he's been doing this - he said 'years' - I asked if there was usually a large group at the auction here - he said 'a few regulars' - but the larger town abou 30 miles from here he said is crazy with people.He didn't win either though - the third guy won at $8,500.

I am just curious....I do understand what you mean...I guess its more of a personal investment as oppossed to a financial investment...I do sleep better at night though and the mortgage/rent money is freed up so I can make other investments...Ideally I should have bought a couple homes here in Ca. several years ago and I would have had alot of equity which I could have leveraged..I need to get myself a crystal ball :woohoo:

Bill, if you are performing business travel, which would need to be far enough to require a sleep over, then eating a meal alone is a deductible travel expense.
