As someone who's had some exposure to the A&E industry, I know how important it is that projects finish on time and on or under budget (preferably the ladder).  

They made me do things differently and see my role in a different way:The E-Myth Revisited - this is all about learning to setup systems so you can grow.Getting Things Done - I live and die by my GTD lists.

A good property manager is worth their weight in gold.

That's a lot of extra weight on the roof that is not intended to be there.

For the electrical we had to call PG&E to come out an unlock the breaker box so we could change a main breaker just to run our inspection on the houses electricity.

I pay for MLS (Like you would anyplace), my E and O Insurance (Like you would any place, though unlike MLS this can probably vary a little), and like $200/yr in office dues which I think is pretty cheap.  

There are some disadvantages compared to SFR but the advantages far out weight them.
