For paint, I use a neutral grey ("revere pewter" is the official shade name) for all the walls, white for trim and ceilings, and off-white for kitchen cabinets.

There's something very similar in the language learning community where people incessantly read and listen about learning their target language (in English), getting absolutely nowhere obviously.

Splitting into two official units would make zoning more of a PITA as well. 

I'm sure I'm just green as hell and don't know the language you're using, but I'm not sure what to read into this advice.
