I was a little bit surprised, markets in Florida topped the list by a bit — I'd thought that, lower taxes aside, the huge insurance premiums would drive off would-be investors.Regardless, what makes sense for you is going to be specific to the type of investment strategy you're taking, but you could do much worse than looking at the cities mentioned above.

Tried to go with Fire and Personal Liability (removing Wind and Hail) to reduce cost but haven't found any offerings.I wonder if other landlords/investors have some good strategies to tackle this challenging environment.

An LLC is used to hold business assets.A house-hack is a partial personal property / business property.You also have to separate business and personal assets within an LLC.So the question is would you be getting the protection that you are looking for by putting an asset that is partially personal within an LLC.You might also be losing your homestead exemption.Best of luck.
