Only employees can participate in a 401(k) plan, not 1099-MISC contract workers (even if they're your spouse). 1099 contract workers can contribute to other types of retirement plans, such as a SEP IRA, but not a 401(k).

Just make sure your offer contract allows you an inspection period with the option to back out if your inspection comes back with any big ticket expenses that turn it into a bad deal.

In Massachusetts, there are extra tenant friendly laws so be careful when others post advice that although are legal where they are, its illegal here.
