I can see tourism up its one of the most cost effective warm places to go that you can get to in 3 to 6 hour flight.. took me 6 hours from Seattle non stop..

Pilots, flight attendants, etc. often "commute" from another town to work at thier base.

(The local partner may also sidestep the $317,000 minimum purchase price also, I haven't read about that specifically though but it makes sense to me. )Malaysia is about a 22 hour flight, one way, from the US.Corruption and rule of law are comparatively low for the region, but much higher than back home.

Flight capital from around the world is attracted to the safety of the US, but it is disproportionately invested in just a few markets, like New York, causing those markets to become distorted and raising prices across the board for real estate.  

Just noise really, knowing the history of flight from cities to suburbs in NJ would probably be more useful.

In addition, I spent $400 on a flight, before the deal fell through, to be in Michigan on the closing date, which ultimately never happened.

But also do forget that Spokane is a short flight away, and has some spectacular rental opportunities.
