From posts by local investors, the neighborhoods in both cities can vary greatly by the block.  

I think it's about R-4 so maybe three layers.On a gas unit keep the bottom combustion air inlets open and do not block the draft hood openings on the top.For myself I would probably glue on 1" sheet Rubatex insulation and make a nice industrial-looking job out of it.

It is a bit of a pain, because once you're done with the renovations, your Builder's Risk policy would not cover you, if anything were to happen. 

If you find a big place a block from the university you can do furnished and go with international students but other then that it is more difficult.  

That's a really painful lesson in title examination.-- You don't get absolute occupancy rights.

It does need work and I am in the process right now to comp the  store buildings on the block so I can ask for a fair price any feedback or information is greatly appreciated if I get the deal or not.Thanks,Mike 

Just pissed that the bank is being a pain considering we have less debt than over 80% of Americans and assets of 1.65 Mil which is more than 5% of Americans (rough estimates).

There may be 2 houses between the 2700 and the 2800 block and only 2 lots, so it is not as easy as just counting the houses 2X2.So I am resourceful, I hit the CAD, foreclosure sites, even Zillow and Realtor to scour for owners of the house.

I see potentials and money flowing through these beautiful neighborhoods, some which may have a few abandoned houses on each block, but nobody is telling me where to begin directly.
