It's a gambler's mentality, which is always foolish, to think that a tiny investment will make a large profit, especially when there are a whole bunch of fingers in that pie.

He provides his perspective occasionally on his podcast (and has an episode where he talks about it in depth), plus he apparently practices what he preaches by minimizing equity, even in his personal residence (he says). 

And as the depth of comments here support, this "non payment" is a very localized and fortunately rare happening.

It just depends on your end goals, cash flow need, pocket depth etc.
