I would suggest you search for and attend a local real estate investor's meet up in your area and try to ask for clarification on your thinking. 

Try a google search for something like "biggerpockets leverage vs cash" or "biggerpockets pay off mortgage vs leverage" etc and you'll be busy for hours.

Sometimes searching the address of an asset on loopnet will tell you all you want to know.
