I unsure about Canadian Rules & Regulations, but in Texas you would have to honor the existing Lease and rules established around that lease until the lease expires.

And if no one is hiring, you better figure out some sort of value-add you can bring to them.Will it be social media?

Claim all your salary, pay taxes, pay social security, Medicare tax, disability, unemployment. 

Seems like landlords have always been the punching bag every time there is some kind of social upheaval.

I was lucky when I moved to Seattle in that I turned one luke-warm connection into a social network of good friends, but that was very fortunate.

I was watching this youtube video from a Canadian investor I like and he said...

Then I get this whole story about how they tried filing for COVID rent relief with New York State and support through Social Services and the previous owner didn't follow through with the paperwork, etc...., etc......I called the NYS COVID rent relief line and there is nothing on file for him or his girlfriend, therefore nothing is in place concerning a COVID declaration that I would need to adhere too and the deadline to file for assistance was 1 Feb 2021. 

I am curious what tax implications there will be as I become a Canadian resident.
