Marcia,If a relative is charged below market rent (second home taxation) but 2 others are non-relative renters, wouldn't it be 33% of the mortgage and taxes be deductible on Schedule A and 67% be on Schedule E?

However, I would suggest to look at the fundamentals of the US and UK real estate market first.Looking at the US, you can achieve 10-12% net rental yield on single-family houses in several cities in the US (sometimes even higher but then there is some other risk coming into play).

I pay for MLS (Like you would anyplace), my E and O Insurance (Like you would any place, though unlike MLS this can probably vary a little), and like $200/yr in office dues which I think is pretty cheap.
