The original grantor (the foreclosing bank) is happy to help and will resign a new deed, but the real estate attorney says this would be a problem as I'm already on record as the owner and it would cause title chain issues.

LOL.The locks - maybe a compromise is in order, where you can put in a good latch for the inside - like one of those hotel type metal hooks that are more solid than a chain, so she can crack open the door to talk to someone and still be safe?

If you can't afford to live in a particular city anymore, you complain, you get more jobs - or you move somewhere you can afford.And if you have to spend half of your income on housing - and/or choose to do so in an expensive area, you just cut back on other things.It's not the end of the world to "have to" watch movies on Amazon Prime or Netflix instead of going out, or cooking your own meals at home.I live on practically nothing and I do just fine.
