You need to be able to put food on the table in the mean time. 

Look at services near by such as grocery stores, convenience stores and food locations.  

Would a food truck/trailer fall under the “like kind” investment property umbrella?

Can't say I have ever had a situation where such amazing food was wasted in this way, but I would not charge them as I have no proof. 

The senior citizen population, who live off social security, have barely enough to pay for rent and food.

After educating myself with all the BiggerPockets books and videos, i think it's time to take some action.I'm from Italy, unfortunately the real estate market here is not very good, banks don't give out loans, you can't refinance, everything is much more tricky, but hey, we have good food.
