It's been about 2 month process so far.Chad, Gene's advice sounds solid, anything you can do to familiarize yourself with construction components and terminology will give you a better shot at becoming an inspector.

We bought our first 100+ year old house as newlyweds (read: naive children) in 1998 and have lived in and renovated several since, selling for a decent profit each time and learning how to do things like remove milk paint, do plumbing and wiring, and jack up a porch to replace failing beams.

In my (rather inexperienced) opinion, I think it's much like any trade (lawyers, insurance agents, CPA's, realtors, and so on) in REI - some are great:- Responsive- Call / email back quickly- Lots of detail/informationand so on.Whilst others are relatively useless to be gentle about it.I've seen both sides (who thought finding a decent (insert profession here - I've seen it with insurance, accounting, legal, etc.!)

The market is pricey and it's hard to acquire properties that generate decent rates of return without having to come out of pocket with a large down payment.There are many great markets in the Midwest down south to Texas and over to the east where you can get better value for your investment capital and leverage into more real estate and get better returns.
