The rights were freely transferable and the former owners were happy to get a few bucks.

Paying a few extra bucks upfront will save you thousands later on.

Skype burned me in the early years and soured me, nothing big, just like 10 bucks worth of air credits, it was in their early years and they had some fine print that if you didnt use your time within so many months it went from being airtime to credits for add ons....not sure what that was all about but dont care for being nickeled and dimed so never went back.

It also seems that as far as bang for your buck, you get so much more and of better quality in America, but I may be biased.
