Most important things to learn with getting started are realistic expectations for rate of return and expenses and working out financing, after that the rest is fairly basic.

There are a lot of discussions about how, when and where but just as important is the willingness TO ACT.

On the other hand, if you're also looking at resale properties, it would be more important to find an agent who knows the market and can guide you.
