The water heater, toilet, per window cost, paint, carpet all cost the same as a house in the cities, and this is especially true as you have described these properties as needing work.

I believe the reason the home didn't sell for 2 years was due to poor photo, and poor showings, People need to feel as if they can come right in and start living, If homeowners have messy distractions it will immediately remove focus from the home and buyers will focus more on the mess.
