I find it hard to imagine the real estate market will get hit as bad as it did before.

A 10% increase after a claim really isn't that bad.

And you're absolutely right, just because the mortgage may have been a bad deal does not make it fraudulent. 

DTI is bad. 

The request for blinds in the kitchen does not seem bad to me.
