The benefit of the loan is that it provides the ability to put the principle back, plus a modest interest rate, however, it has the same issue with profits earned on those funds become taxable to you, which can be a substantial reduction in the future value.Additionally, as noted in my original post, in a potentially shrinking economy, taking retirement funds into your personal name may not be a great asset protection strategy.Having been in the self-directed IRA business for the last 15 years, I have seen too many investors take out retirement funds into their personal name thinking it’s the only or best way to buy real estate only to find out it could have been done within the IRA and maintained the tax benefits, which can make a significant difference in long term wealth building.Happy Investing!
