I can schedule the charge.. full tank 3 bucks. you can buy a used one of those that are grandfathered into the free super chargers.. plus no oil no tune ups.. the only thing you will spend money on is tires and windshield wiper fluid. and they are hands down safest car on the road in a collision.. plus they self drive ( at least mine do)  so that's very safe as well.I say spend the dough to protect the kids get a second job if you need more income.. especially a fire fighter.. all you guys have two jobs.

@Oliver Salmon - For some municipalities in NH there is a rule that the owner must occupy 1 of the residences which makes it a bit harder to acquire single family homes with ADUs in the same town over and over again (depending on the town).

If it takes 6 years to be vested and you don't think that you'll be with the company for 6 years, then contributing to their 401k doesn't mean much.I worked for an oil and gas company that required 6 years of employment with no more than 6-month gaps in that employment in order to be vested.
