It looks like the reason they burst had nothing to do with the tenants ability to leaving the heat on, but rather an inability to get the propane filled.

Often tenants will leave if they know the house is going on the market- or they won't want to be cooperative about showings.

All you can do is collect as much information as possible about them now so that if they leave, you can locate them to serve them.
