Or you can have the collection removed from your report by hiring an attorney, submitting proof that its paid, and having the attorney inform by letter, all 3 bureaus that it has been paid.

One method I've read about is finding someone who is defaulting on their mortgage and sending them a letter offering to help.

More a letter of intent then anything else.If you do agree a contract and you are not clearly spelling out your position you are committing fraud and that is a criminal offense.Best not to get to fancy.
