If nothing else, just for the experience.My suggestion is to seek out a Property Manager you trust and ask him/her to help you with the purchase as your agent.

However, we only have about 7k saved up, and would prefer not to have to use all of that on buying a house so we would probably have to leverage a first home buyers type loan and maybe a down payment assistance type loan.

I used a family member to assist us with any maintenance issues.
