I also read alot, and many REI books today are not filled with much valuable infomration, just enough motivational stuff for you to buy more books or 'training'.Richard's book seems to be on point with good and valuable informatoin.Full Disclosure: No financial ties to the author/publisher etc.

That first deal may have been the hardest one.In regards to your question, the suggestion that I keep hearing over and over is “Invest in yourself.†Decide to take some of your profit and invest it back into yourself through training.Take the time to research the training and trainers available out there and pick the one that suits you.
