BPers - I am borrowing money from a private lender soon and seek best practices around picking a loan servicer (lender doesn't have one). 

I work in New York city, and need to buy within a practical commute distance from the city.

It amazes me how naive people can be to think that criminals wouldn't take advantage of this practice.  

Can I get some advice on best practice for doing a joint venture that is fair for both parties but not an inked partnership?
