If you go out of state, make sure it’s more like 1300 rent and 100k purchase or something along those lines.I can tell you I’ve done 2 years of long distance (out of state) investing and about 8 months now of local investing, and I prefer local a lot more.

Do you want something local or are you willing to invest long distance?

And most people commute anyway but would have a 300k-500k mortgage instead of 1.2-1.8 Million dollar price tag.  

The main reason is that we want to be in driving distance from the Triangle region to enjoy the property and mountains from time-to-time.

I'm personally open to renting short term or even moving in with my parents for 1-2 months (the upside of having 2 grandkids they currently don't see often due to distance) but with a wife that hates moving once let alone twice in a 3 month period, I'm also hesitant going down this path.Will I have to compromise on my numbers to make this work?

Hey Taylor, To be honest, I am not entirely sure, I live principally in Az, but I commute to spend time with my fiancé in Monterey CA most weekends. 

Being that I am just starting out, I didn’t think long distance investing is the right move for me at this time.
