Someone upthread mentioned that Branson has had STRs longer than the booking channels have been around, and that illustrates a point related to this: in the olden days, when you'd look up a vacation rental in the classifieds, people were more tolerant of the idea that they were sort of borrowing someone else's house and things might not be completely perfect and they'd have to procure their own supplies, but these days, the booking channels have created almost hotel-like expectations.

I do it all the time to houses that have never had central HVAC and don't have any duct work.You can control the temp in the house from one location and even add a programmable Wi-Fi thermostat for remote monitoring and control.You won't be cutting holes in the side of the house and making it look like a hotel instead of a nice house.This will increase your resale value over the other options.Mini splits and window AC units look ghetto to me, so I spend the money to do it correctly.

We had zero regulation over STRs here for a few years when Airbnb first started back in the day, and truthfully it was bad: whole blocks of downtown were basically hotels for a little while there and it started to feel more like a commercial district than residential.
