What are some good resources for the market I'm interested in, such as websites, blogs, or realtors?

I'm wondering what are some of the best ways to figure out what the market is like in an area (the title), and how to discover up and coming locations? 

The tenants never even called me about it, and I only found out about it when they moved out a short time later and I discovered the exterior solid core door had been replaced with an interior hollow core door.
