@TJ Brown the only reason to write off an expense is to deduct it from taxable income.Unless this is part of a corporation or LLC or some other entity that has income there is nothing to write it off against.

And some like most of our closest friends are high school grads that bypassed college and worked an ordinary job and then invested on the side (I gave up a corporate management job with a fortune 500 company to drive a truck in the middle of the night to work real estate) and now we are people who hire college grads.
