I’m always so wary of low cost houses.Funny story, I moved into a rental my mother owns in Westport CT with my girl friend because I am working with P&Z on adding a 1200 sqft addition to pay a very low rent (at cost of the loan to build and it utilities) while we rent the existing residence out.It turned out that next door the owner was looking to sell, which is a duplex.

The house is in a neighborhood where medical, nursing, pharmacy students rent.

The city opened an investigation on this home in 2018, deeming the home to be a nurse and ordered for it to be torn down.

It is almost 3k sq feet and was previously a nursing home. 

About me: I am a ICU nurse in CA.

You can also buy something that has a Detached ADU, or a Mother in Law (MIL).

Even if the market dips if colleagues need rental housing (or traveling nurses etc) such as in your situation it will work.

I’m going for nursing so I want to make sure the work load from managing the property isn’t too extreme.

The primary living area is approximately 2300', an attached mother-in-law is around 700', and two apartments with separate entrances are about 550' each.

Will the purchase of the property for my mother hurt the ability for us to buy another rental property soon after?
