Chose my location based on the job, convenience, and family, rather than where was affordable and good for investments.Your traditional Asian parents may not see the vision of REI yet (and may never), but I bet they would be all for you buying your primary residence.

Given that you plan to house hack, I think figuring out which neighborhoods are convenient to work, offer decent 2-4 units at reasonable prices, are safe, and offer the amenities (restaurants, night life, shopping, etc) are going to be important to you.  

I've been looking for a local REIA convenient to the Cape Cod area, but have not been able to find anything. 

Specifically, I noted you used WeGoLook and now I have added it to my list of resources as well because it seems very convenient, especially for long distance investing. 

For example, I have accounts on all my suppliers (except for some "convenience" shops), I have a standing instruction where it is illegal to "combine" purchases per project, each project is treated as a separate transaction, every time, all the time, no matter what, no matter when.

It's all quick and convenient. 

It's a bit less convenient than Delta's direct connect.....But at the same time, Star Alliance is generally cheaper/fewer points for international business class than Delta is, so worst case scenario I find a lounge and knock back Manhattan's like it's my personal job to diminish the world's bourbon stock.

Pretty convenient.
